It is all about an afternoon of talking about art, thinking about art and creating art. You do not have to be a professional (we actually prefer that), just get out of your usual routine and become artsy for two hours.

Johanna is the owner along with her husband Wim. Johanna is involved in all areas of hotel operations and works hard behind the scenes to tell the world about this piece of paradise ~ Juliana's Hotel and Tropics Cafe.
Luke is our tour guide for the trails and specialized bird watcher, our groundskeeper, our project leader, our greeter, our event planner, our porter, our public relations manager, our host, our bartender….what does he do? Everything with a smile!
Anna Keene is our gardener / landscaper. She is her own boss and we don't get in the way of that. :) She's got a green thumb and vision for landscaping and loves what she does. Catch her is the garden for a chat and you'll not only hear about the good old days on Saba, you'll also hear about her loom and paper making business (but she won't talk about her hoarding skills).
Jose is our maintenance man and he has a laugh and a smile that could light up a room. You will always see Jose busy, with either a paintbrush in his hands or a pool net cleaning the pool.
Wim is the manager and owner of the place! Always happy, always smiling, always willing to go out of his way for his guests or colleagues. You just might catch him at his favorite spot and get to share a beer or whiskey with him, while listening to his stories of days gone by and yet to come. Image taken by Chizzilala.
Tropics Cafe will be hosting the first of many "Cork and Canvas" workshops on March 31st. Heleen Cornet will also be exhibiting in Saba’s Five Squares Art Gallery March 24th - April 8th 2018.
It’s been a while since I’ve put up a blog…..we had two hurricanes (great excuse for being busy), but I (Johanna) also had a stroke, during hurricane Maria on September 19th 2017. I remember sitting in my room and only able to mumble words, I had no clue what was going on....my husband Wim recognized the symptoms of a stroke and got me down to the hospital during the middle of the hurricane…and here the roller coaster ride begins.
It has been nine days since we were struck by hurricane Irma. We are still on the road to recovery but Saba has yet again proved that we are resilient and that as an island we can unite to get things done ~ Official Tourism Statement
