Moving forward: Juliana's Hotel is looking to expand, 1 step at a time!
Official Press Release:
"On Tuesday, August 29, 2017, on the grounds of Captain Quarters, the sale purchase agreement was executed.
Present was Island Governor Jonathan Johnson, Legal advisor Gerald de Jong, and GIS Saskia Matthew on behalf of Public Entity Saba and Wim and Johanna Van ‘t Hof on behalf of J.W. Hotel & Apartments N.V, the buyer.
Captain’s Quarters, once a 19th-century whaling captain’s house expanded and converted into one of the finest guesthouses on the Island, was destroyed by Hurricane George in 1998. Since then, numerous failed attempts had been made to sell this property, due to complex administrative and legal hurdles.
Finally, these issues have been resolved and the property can be sold and further developed by J.W. Hotel & Apartments N.V
The Public Entity Saba is pleased that a tourism entrepreneur that is well established on the Island was able to purchase the property to redevelop it."

Mistake ~ Wim and Johanna van't Hof should be last married name Schutten. Johanna has Wim right where she wants him, carrying her last name :)

Wim and Johanna...I am so elated to read this news that the sorry eyesore of the remains of our beautiful CQ grounds can finally be made back into a gem of Saba that it once was...and I'm convinced it will be even more under your direction! My love affair with Saba began in 1982 with several stays at CQ with Steve and Kathy. I was devastated when I would visit year after year and see the ruins from the hurricane sink deeper and deeper back into the bush, not from entrepreneurial inertia but due to regulations, personalities, and invisible lines drawn through the property that prevented anyone from moving forward. I am so looking forward to my subsequent visits and observing your progress in reclaiming the beauty of Juliana's new wonderful anchor point at the foot of Windwardside. Jeff from Lake Chapala, Jalisco, Mexico (formerly Phoenix, AZ)

Congratulations, Wim and Johanna! We are very pleased to know CQ is now in your very capable hands; we look forward to seeing a bit of Saba's hotel history return. Besides that, we have always enjoyed having you as friends and neighbors.

Similar to Jeffery's comment, our first visit to CQ was in 1981. That visit started our long love affair with Saba and its wonderful people.

Is it possible to get an update on the Captain Quarters? Did you just tear it down or are you planning to rebuild/expand on the property?

I can understand that after 2 hurricanes and the stroke that is not top priority.

Hope to visit beautiful Saba again soon!

I was through in the early 1980's and fell hard for the beauty. I hope to get back there...if I could retire there, I would in a heartbeat!
