Travel has changed a lot over the last decade or so, and one major way in which we are seeing this transition is the newfound emphasis on experiencing new destinations rather than just visiting them.
It seems like every app, destination and traveler is encouraging travelers to “go local.” But how can you really experience travel like a local in a destination you’ve never been to?
Well on Saba this is pretty easy! Here are some tips about Going LOCAL while staying at Juliana’s Hotel.
Getting crafty on Saba!
Tropics Café hosts Spirits & Arts, four different events, alternating every Saturday (starting Sundays in April 2019). Come and enjoy some wine (or beer), hors d’oeuvres and enjoy an art workshop taught by local artists and attended by local folks. Classes are filled with locals doing tie-dye, beads, textiles and painting workshops. You will sit with local women and men and enjoy an afternoon of relaxing while talking, thinking and creating art.
Hike the trails like a local!
On Wednesday evening, Tropics Cafe shows a virtual show on hiking Saba’s trails. You will learn about the flora and fauna on Saba, and you’ll be able to recognize the species while hiking one of Saba’s 18 trails. Top it off and go even more local and book a hike with Crocodile James, the Saba Conservation Foundation’s trail guide. James offers context to a destination that you simply can never get when hiking independently. Combine the slide show with a guided hike with James to gain awareness of the history of Saba’s trail system to give you an experience like no other…you’ll begin to feel like a local.
Come to our TGIF Happy Hour!
On Fridays, Tropics Cafe becomes the local watering hole! Government workers, our Saba Medical school professors and locals come to end their week and start the weekend right with a few drinks and an even better time! Get a first-hand take on Saba from the people who live here, spend time with them and get to know them and embrace the culture.
The modern traveler doesn’t want to be segregated behind the high walls of a resort, instead travelers want to get out and embrace new cultures. These are just a few tips to help you step beyond the walls on Saba and easily do this at Juliana’s Hotel.
